چکیده

Several strange objects in the spiral galaxy NGC 6946 are described. One of these objects is the giant stellar complex noted long ago; we suggested that its sharp semicircular western edge is a result of the ram pressure, arising owing to motion of this complex through the H I halo of NGC 6946. We found another enigmatic object, proposing for it the name Red Ellipse; it is located within the isolated Northern arm of the galaxy. The enormous size of this Ellipse, and especially the spectroscopic data obtained recently with the 6-m reflector of the Special Astrophysical Observatory, made us to conclude that this object could not be a supernova remnant. The excellent image of NGC 6946 obtained with the Subaru 8-m telescope also shows a strange region with several regular crossed dark lanes, connected with a black spot.

The Curious Case of NGC 6908 1

The object NGC 6908 was once thought to be simply a surface-brightness enhancement in the eastern spiral arm of the nearby spiral galaxy NGC 6907. Based on an examination of near-infrared imaging, the object is shown in fact to be a lenticular S0(6/7) galaxy hidden in the optical glare of the disk and spiral structure of the larger galaxy. New radial velocities of NGC 6908 (3,060 ± 16 (emission...

Application of the global modal approach to spiral galaxies

We have tested the applicability of the global modal approach in the density wave theory of spiral structure for a sample of six spiral galaxies: NGC 488, NGC 628, NGC 1566, NGC 2985, NGC 3938 and NGC 6503. The galaxies demonstrate a variety of spiral patterns from the regular open and tightly wound spiral patterns to a multi-armed spiral structure. Using the observed radial distributions of th...

The effect of variation of stellar dispersion velocities by the galactic latitude in interpreting gravitational microlensing observations

Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and its stars are mostly in a thin disk and rotate around the galactic center. The vertical component of the dispersion velocity of stars is a function of the galactic latitude and decreases with increasing it. In the galactic Besancon model, this dependence is ignored and they just consider the dependence of dispersion velocity on the stellar age. Becanson model i...

Nearby Spiral Galaxy Globular Cluster Systems II : Globular Cluster Abundances in NGC 300

We present new metallicity estimates for globular cluster candidates in the Sd spiral NGC 300, one of the nearest spiral galaxies outside the Local Group. We have obtained optical spectroscopy for 44 Sculptor Group globular cluster candidates with the Boller and Chivens (B&C) spectrograph on the Baade Telescope at Las Campanas Observatory. Nine of these objects appear to be genuine old globular...

Spatial Distribution of Faint Fuzzy Star Clusters in NGC 5195

We present a study of a faint fuzzy star cluster system in the nearby SB0 galaxy NGC 5195 interacting with the famous spiral galaxy NGC 5194 (M51), based on HST ACS BV I mosaic images taken by the Hubble Heritage Team. We have found about 50 faint fuzzy star clusters around NGC 5195 which are larger than typical globular clusters with effective radii reff > 7 pc and red with (V − I) > 1.0. They...
